Detailed Project Advice
Cork House – Matthew Barnett Howland Architects
Google HQ, Kings Cross, London – Client: Google
Introduced Google to the idea of embodied carbon assessment. Undertook detailed whole life carbon assessments through all projects stages for both AHMM Scheme, and then the Heatherwick/BIG proposals as shown. Life Cycle analysis of projected building carbon performance over 100 years a key contribution.
21 Moorfields, City of London – Client: Landsec
Detailed Whole Life Carbon assessments undertaken from RIBA Project Stage 2. Assessments included all cost plan elements including provision of carbon reduction options for consideration by the design team. One of six projects for Landsec.
Cork House – Client: Matthew Barnett Howland Architects
Involved from the outset with embodied carbon analysis and advice for this ground-breaking scheme. This house had by far the lowest carbon footprint of any project we had undertaken. A possible signpost for the future, this project was a Stirling Prize finalist.
4a/4b Frederick’s Place, City of London – Client: The Company of Mercers
Complex scheme of refurbishment/retrofit and new build in a conservation area. Low Carbon design contributing to cost efficiency and Planning – Conservation Area Consent. Provision of detailed design options advice to optimise carbon reductions.
Kings Cross Sports Hall – Client: Argent
Worked closely with Architects - Bennetts Associates - to achieve an exemplary low carbon building. Experimentation with new techniques and materials to achieve optimum results. Localised assessments of individual systems to achieve maximum reductions.
The Landsby Residential Building, Wembley Park, London – Client: Quintain
Assessment undertaken post completion for demonstration purposes and including theoretical options for improvement on original design. Analysis showed a potential 41% embodied carbon reductions, of which ¾ were assessed by QS as cost neutral and the remainder worth market testing.
Westgate Retail Centre, Oxford – Client: Landsec and Crown Estate
Major Mixed Use scheme in the centre of Oxford. Whole Life Carbon reduction strategy fundamental to Planning Approval. Detailed carbon analysis and reduction options advice at all project stages, including close coordination with main contractor.
Sports Hall, Warwick University – Client: Warwick University
New Sports Hall for Warwick University. Full carbon assessment and options to reduce for the design team. This project led to providing Warwick University with a detailed Policy and Delivery Strategy for low/zero carbon design and procurement for all University projects.
Living Planet Centre, Woking – Client: World Wildlife Fund
This was the first UK Office Project to have a full Whole Life Carbon assessment. The input ensured that many low carbon design choices were made that were initially counter intuitive but helped reduce both carbon and cost.
1-9 Seymour Street, London – Client: The Portman Estate
Mixed Use development in the Westminster Conservation Area. Detailed assessments and carbon reduction options at all project Stages. Close integration with the design team.
